The deadline for poster submissions
has now officially passed.
We are no longer accepting posters abstracts
Please read below for important information regarding poster presentations and submissions.
Number of Posters per Site, Poster Specs, and Deadlines Each LTER site will be allotted 16 poster spaces. Each poster MUST be no larger than 4’ x 4’ in order to accommodate all posters. Poster submissions are due July 1. After July 1, if the 16 poster spaces have not been secured with poster submissions, we will open up the submission to all until July 15. We highly encourage ILTER and non-LTER sites to submit site science posters. We also suggest that 2/3 of these posters be student submissions. Please contact your site Lead PI if you are interested in submitting a poster. Sites are responsible for identifying their 16 posters that will be submitted.
Poster Types and Organization
We have two main types of posters that we request be submitted for the 2006 ASM: site description posters and site science posters. Site description posters will be displayed during the evening of our first social, Wednesday, September 20. Each LTER site and ILTER Network will have the opportunity and are highly encouraged to present an “informational” or “synthesis” poster that describes research at each respective LTER site or ILTER Network. We also encourage each site or Network to print 2-3 copies of posters so that they can be displayed in several places to facilitate viewing by the large group that will be in attendance. Site science/cross-site scienceposters will be displayed all day, with one third of the posters displayed on each meeting day (September 21, 22, & 23). Posters will be attended during the evening mixer each night with additional viewing/tending opportunities during lunch and dinner. These are science posters presenting research of members of one or more of the LTER sites, ILTER sites and Networks, and LTER affiliate sites. 9 x 11 copies of your posters will greatly facilitate one-on-one meetings with attendees, and are highly encouraged in preparation for this meeting.
The site science poster sessions will be organized by TOPIC (LTER Core Areas, Planning Grant Questions and Education) as opposed to SITE as in ASMs of the past. We hope that this facilitates inter-site networking and exchange of information and ideas. Thus, we ask that each poster presenter select a theme within which they would like to present their poster.
Core Areas:
- Primary Production
- Population Studies
- Movement of Organic Matter
- Movement of Inorganic Matter
- Disturbance Patterns
- Information Management
- Modeling
Planning Grant Question themes:
- Human actions, resource availability and disturbance
- Press vs. pulse disturbances
- Biotic structure and ecological fluxes
- Altered ecosystems and changes in ecosystem services
- Changes in ecosystem services and affect on human behavior
Education
Additionally, instead of tending posters for the entire session, poster presenters will be asked to tend their posters during the first or second hours of each poster session with the remaining time a “free-for-all”. This is intended to reduce crowding in the poster viewing room and will permit poster presenters the opportunity to view other posters on display. The hour in which you will be asked to tend your poster will be posted in the meeting agenda. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Volunteers for Poster Committee
Students who are willing to serve on the on-site poster committee (set-up/break-down) will have their registration fees waived. Please contact troxlert@fiu.edu if you are interested.
