The Video Plankton Recorder (VPR) is an instrument usually towed behind the ship, and is being recovered here. It makes controlled dives and climbs in the water column. A camera records images of zooplankton at approximately 10 mph. The images can be viewed via cable to ship computer to measure size as well as type and abundance. 4/10/2007.(Photo by Andrew King.)
