Examples include research involving large spatial scales, use of geographic information systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing Technologies. The Network Office investigates and supports new technologies related to field data acquisition such as video and wireless data transmission. Acquisition, archiving, and distribution of satellite and GIS data useful to the LTER Network are major activities of the LTER Network Office. This work includes partnerships with National Science Foundation centers such as the National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (NPACI) and federal agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
