NSF – Global Fiducial Site Survey

Site Number/Name: Coweeta Hydrological Laboratory (CWT)

            GFL No.:

            Name:

            State, Country: NC, USA

Priority:                       1

Site designation(s):     LTER (WEBB, NMS, MAB etc?). Our study area lies within that of the Southern Appalachian Man and the Biosphere (SAMAB) project.

Other sponsoring/interested agencies, if any:  USFS

Location and size:

Below are data for four nested areas (Figure 1). Coweeta (red) is the core site for our research. The Upper Little Tennessee River (Green) has been the locus of extensive socioeconomic modeling of land use transitions as they relate to ownership patterns, distance to market centers, and other factors. We are developing parcel maps that extend our record of land use into the early 19th century. Our socioeconomic research extends into selected basins and counties of the Southern Appalachian study region (Gray) as a whole. Aquatic research focuses on the four USGS Hydrologic Units depicted (Blue).
